33,333 Bank Cards Cataloged

Our Bank card catalog has surpassed the milestone of 33,333 unique bank cards on display.

Bank cards are used for withdrawing money from your bank account or paying for various services straight from the card. These cards are issued by a specific bank and they store the information about your funds in that bank's account. Despite the card and the account being connected to a certain bank, it's common that other banks offer services which let you access your funds for some fee.

Bank cards differ by type. Most common one on Colnect is a debit card. Second most spread type is a credit card. Difference between these two is that when using a debit card, money comes from the bank account, while credit card functions as the way of taking a credit from the bank quickly.

Probably most of you have also noticed that many cards have their own unique design. There are various themes offered by card issuers. Some even offer custom designs, letting owners customize their own cards.

We want to thank every dear editor, translator, and contributor who worked on this category and made this achievement possible. Special thanks to an amazing coordinator of this category, Irina Alferova [alfcard].

6,666 Tea Labels Passed

The first milestone of tea labels is here. The catalog has passed a number of 6,666 items.

Thank you, everyone, for making Colnect better day by day and thanks to the coordinator, Els Van Gastel [leeuwin], for taking such good care of the tea labels category.

The first use of tea was medical and it started in China, but later on during Tang Dynasty, which lasted from 618 to 917 AD, tea started becoming popular as a recreational drink. Even though in Asia tea was popular it wasn't until the 16th century that it was introduced to Europe.

Today many collectors are collecting tea bags and tea labels and it is considered as one of the bases of large collections. Currently, on Colnect, you can find 554 different brands with 37 themes of tea labels from 72 countries.

700,007+ Stamps on Colnect

Colnectors, let's celebrate that our Stamp category has passed a new super-cool number of items, 700,007 ;)

Paintings, 1997, United Arab Emirates, Colnect catalog

Beginning a stamp collection is entertaining, discovering new information about the stamps which have been issued by the countries of the world over the years. Stamps are tiny pieces of art – colorful, well-designed. Some of them commemorate famous people and events, others - present animals and birds, flowers, railways, ships and aircrafts, buildings and bridges, armors and flags, space and sport.

Fairy Swordfish, 1982, Ascension Island, Colnect catalog

Actually, the Stamps category is the biggest one on Colnect. It has been led for a long time by two dedicated coordinators - Guido Fußhöller [footy68] and Klaus Jochimsen [Lola22]. Thank you guys for all you do for Colnectors and Colnect catalog.

Discovery of America, 500th anniv., ships, 1992, Uruguay, Colnect catalog

There are three main approaches to structuralizing stamp collection:
  • chronological - stamp lovers collect items from the specific historical period
  • thematical approach - stamps on the specific theme for example butterflies
  • geographic approach - stamps from the specific countries
What's your approach to collecting stamps?

African Monarch (Danaus chrysippus), 2002, Azerbaijan, Colnect catalog

Thank you to coordinators Vadym Sulimenko [Dravec] and Grzegorz Pająk [quarteris] and everyone else who contributed to making it happen. You guys are doing an amazing job at making Colnect better.

A postcard is a piece of thin paper which makes it possible to write and mail without using envelopes. Did you know that the study and collecting of postcards are called deltiology? Deltiologists collect postcards for various reasons. Some are just attracted to postcards, while others are trying to collect postcards with some specific theme

Arcipelago Night - House with Maypole, Sweden, Colnect Catalog

Several different uses were found for postcards other than its original one. Many schools are using postcards as the way of teaching geography and also postcards are used by libraries and historical societies to determine how a certain city used to look like at a particular time in history.

7,777 Holy Cards on Colnect!

Seven is a holy number in many religions, so it is rather symbolic that our Holy Card catalog has surpassed 7,777 items!

Italy is the motherland of Catholicism, so no surprise that Penisola appenninica is the leader in this category with 6,755 items. By the way, Daniele Pennisi [Lelecollector], the coordinator of the Category, owns most of them (6,717). The two following countries are Venezuela and Spain with 318 and 115 cards correspondingly.

"Felix Martyr (holy body)", San Giovanni Gemini, Italy, Colnect catalog
From aedicule-type to mechanic canivet, from digital printing to chromolithography - the variety of holy cards on the category impresses.

Jesus - Adoration of the Shepherds", Vatican City, Colnect catalog

By the way, the first holy card collectors could live even in the 15th century, at the time when first cards appeared. Not everyone could afford sacred image of their patron saint, but necessity is the mother of invention as they say. People invented handmade prints, and later on the Benziger brothers started to crank out the cards in Switzerland. Who knows, perhaps, some of Benziger prints are here on Colnect.

"Joseph", Pisano Etneo (Zafferana Etnea), Italy, Colnect catalog
