Over years popularity skyrocketed and in 2006, gifts cards were second-most given gifts, most wanted gifts by women, and third-most wanted by men in the US. On Colnect there are already more than 5,000 different companies listed which have issued gift cards over the years.

Retirement of Cycling Legend Lance Armstrong - February 16 - Today in History Through Collectibles

Many of the items that collectors on Colnect collect are in fact associated with certain historical events that have taken place over time. This applies especially to Stamps, Phone Cards, Coins and Banknotes. To commemorate these special historical events, countries release special issues of these items that depict images and information relevant to these events.

One year ago, on this day, the legendary bicycler of unparalleled success and determination, Lance Armstrong, announced his retirement from the sport that brought him to every corner of the globe.

February 16, 2011 marked the end of an era for the world-wide sport of professional road racing cycling. Lance Armstrong is history and inspiration. His achievement of seven consecutive Tour de France wins, from 1999 to 2005, has yet to be matched. And it is all the more reason to look up to Armstrong who was diagnosed as having testicular cancer that required brain and other surgeries and chemotherapy from 1996 onward. The man did not quit and went on to win many awards, including Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year award, and he has founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation to research the fight against cancer.

Nike launched this Lance Armstrong gift card in the US, and it features the man on his bike in his patented yellow Live Strong duds and extended racing helmet. Few men have inspired so many to not only fight cancer vehemently but to win over it and help others battle too.

This is more than a hundred percent estimated increase in gift cards this month since we last announced it in July boasting 2,222. We would like to thank the commendable work of our gift card catalog coordinator Claude Martin [Claude] who has exerted extensive efforts of managing the catalog over the past few months.

2,222 Gift Cards on Our Gift Card Catalog for Collectors

Gift cards is one of the new categories on Colnect, added just a month ago. It has, however, got a great boost and now boasts over 2,222 gift cards cataloged. The list of gift card collectors from all around the world is still relatively small but we hope that as the category grows, more gift card collectors would join in and manage their personal collection on Colnect.

Gift Cards & Casino Player Cards - NEW Catalogs for Collector on Colnect

Collecting gift cards? Perhaps casino player cards? We're happy to announce these two new categories are now a part of Colnect and we've started creating extensive catalogs for these categories.

The new gift cards catalog, started and coordinated by Claude Martin [Claude], already has over 700 gift cards in it.


Casino player cards, given by casinos around the world, had a more modest start by Moti Krawitz [motikr] with over 30 cards in the catalog. With your help we could make our catalogs grow.
