Comic Books on Colnect!

It has finally happened! A new category of Comics has been launched on Colnect. We are welcoming all comic book collectors and enthusiasts to join us on Colnect :)

Casket Canyon, Jonah Hex, 2011, USA, Colnect catalog

There are thousands of comic book collectors all over the world. They organize numerous comic book conventions and festivals, where they discuss their favorite comics and meet the authors of comics. The largest and best-known convention in the United States is Comic-Con International that held annually in San Digo. Comics are collected for various reasons, including appreciation the genre as an art form, sentimentality, financial profit, and fulfillment of the collection.
We are very happy to introduce the coordinator of the Comics category, Carlo Bassi, [Carlo-Bassi]. Also, we are grateful to [Skyforger] and [hbofill12] for being a moving power the category and making it happen.

8,888 Tokens Listed

We are happy to celebrate a new super awesome milestone of 8,888 Tokens on Colnect :)

At first, we want to say thank you to all our contributors for their help and efforts on bettering Colnect. Tokens category would not be so cool and great without the dedicated category coordinator, Hernán Bofill [hbofill12].

Bondindinho, Transport: Bus, Brazil

Tokens are coin-like objects utilized instead of coins. Tokens either have a value shown or indicated by size, color or shape. Usually, tokens are manufactured of cheap metals: copperpewteraluminumbrass, and tin. Tokens made of bakelitewoodporcelain, and other less strong materials are also known.

Ministry Marine Fleet, Military, USSR

What is the difference between a coin and a token? Coins are issued by the government or local authorities and can be exchanged for goods or other coins. Tokens have a much more limited use. Usually, they are issued by a private company, group, organization or individual.

In times of high inflation, tokens could have taken on a role of a currency. New York City Subway tokens  were circulated in trade and parking meters since they had a set price.

Caesars Palace, Casino Token, USA

Metal token coins are used instead of cash in casino slot machines. The tokens are the same with money at the casino. They commonly are useless outside of the casino.

S.T.I.P.E.L. Token, Telephone, Italy

The category of philatelic products includes 15 formats. Let us figure out with the most popular of them making top 3.
The biggest number of items, 17,879, belongs to the format of First Day Cover. What is a First Day Cover?
A First Day Cover (FDC) is a postal card or envelope that has a newly issued stamp and a postmark for the first day the stamp was initially placed on sale by postal authorities.
A day of release of the new stamp is usually significant one to the subject of the stamp such as anniversary, commemorative date, opening and closing an event, etc. On the day following the First Day, the stamp is available in the post offices of an issuing country.

Int. Philatelic Expo Rio Grande, Postal Stationery, Argentine, 2012, Colnect catalog

The second bigger number of items in the category, 5,726 items, belongs to the format of Postal Stationery. We may define postal stationery as all the stationery issued by the postal authorities on which a design includes showing the item's value for postage.

The postal stationeries commonly are stamped envelopes, stamped letter sheets, postal cards, letter cards, and newspaper wrappers. Other kinds of stationery, such as forms for postal savings, money orders, or telegraph are also can be defined as postal stationery if they have value stamps printed on them.

The number 3 in our list of the popular formats in the category of philatelic products is First Day Sheet.

The first day sheet may be defined as a card which usually issued to commemorate a significant day, it includes stamps, cancellation, and information about the event, stamp issue, and cancellation on the back of it. The majority of first day sheets in Colnect catalog is from Germany. There is a special German term for the format, Ersttagsblatt.

You can see a classic Ersttagsblatt "Europa (C.E.P.T.) 1993 - Modern Art" issued in Germany, 1993, here on the left. More details on the item are in the catalog.
